I can’t think of a time in my life when physical fitness wasn’t a top priority for me. I got my first Globo-gym membership when I was 16 years old and drove myself there several times a week without fail.  I was a Cheerleader in High School and then for 4 years at the Collegiate level.

In my adult life and before CrossFit I tried many different programs and was always very dedicated to each. I ran long distance, took and taught Group Exercise classes at a Globo-gym, I did Triathlons, with every fun run and Obstacle Race I could squeeze in between. Just as I was starting to feel like I was burning out on what I’d been religiously doing for years and years, I started trying out CrossFit WODs with Marcus/Josh/Andrew usually in Marcus’ garage following  I still tried to mix it with what I’d always known, but I quickly began noticing that a sub 20 minute CrossFit WOD killed me more than the hours of running, hours of Group Exercise classes back to back, and felt much more productive than the one body part at a time on the machines at the gym. I also always noticed that the “CrossFit guys” in the family were beating me on 5K/10K races (and running was supposed to be MY thing!! I did it hours a day….all THEY did was a 7 minute WOD!! 🙂 )

Add kids to the mix and the EFFECTIVENESS and EFFICIENCY of CrossFit mixed with what it does for me physically and mentally, and I can’t imagine a better training program.

The community of CrossFit ISI has changed my life. These are real, everyday people that come together daily and weekly to work hard, share the same struggles, encourage and uplift each other. I am forever grateful for the opportunity to even meet them, and humbled to imagine that I’ve impacted their lives in any way.

I think CrossFit is a fantastic physical fitness program, and I recommend it without reservation. If there is anything at all that I can do to help anybody with fitness or whatever, please don’t hesitate.

Inside of the gym: football at Deer Park HS here in town, D-3 football at Trinity University in San Antonio, taught group exercise at the YMCA for a number of years, CrossFitting since ’08, coaching CrossFit since ’11.

Outside of the gym: 15 years happily and luckily married to my high school sweetheart Amy, amazingly wonderful 11 year old twin boys Alex and Blake, totally worthless but extremely sweet cock-a-poo Lilly, 14 years with Shell primarily in different supply chain type roles, love to be outdoors doing whatever with the family, love to read, love to watch movies, stink at Spike Ball but really enjoy it.

I grew up playing high school sports (football, baseball, and track) and later spent my time as a meathead in the gym throughout my time in college. I began following in 2007 in my garage gym for a few years before being invited by a colleague to Clear Lake CrossFit where I first experienced true CrossFit community and received my L1 Certificate. Not too long after that we opened CrossFit Iron Sharpens Iron in Pearland where I started helping others develop their fitness through CrossFit and better nutrition. I enjoy competing in local competitions as a way of setting goals for myself and being involved in the community. Through CrossFit I continually see progress and set personal records both as a hobby and in preparation for my vocation. It’s important to me to spread the word of this program and its necessity in the law enforcement/first-responder community.

I discovered CrossFit in 2007 and began garage WODs with Marcus and Josh. As the anti-athlete, every bit of endurance, strength, stamina, flexibility, power, speed, coordination, accuracy, agility, and balance I owe to CrossFit. I love the communal aspect of CrossFit and others pushing me to be better. Because I have been pushed, I will push you too. I have high expectations for even the most un-athletic person.

When I’m not CrossFitting, I enjoy spending time with my beautiful wife and kids, playing Spikeball, and pastoring Grassroots Church here in Pearland.
